After many hours of travel covering most of North America and 24 hockey tournaments in April I thought I’d do a quick recap of all of the exciting events that took place this past month. Though we still have tournaments coming up in Atlantic City (May 20-22 & June 24-26), Las Vegas (May 27-30) & Whistler (August 5-7) the bulk of our adult hockey tournaments that took place in April have officially wrapped up. Lets have a look at some of the great stories that emerged this past month.
CHE & Sir Winston Churchhill’s Team Up
To mix things up in Montreal this year CHE teamed up with Sir Winston Churchhill’s Pub to create a great party right in the heart of downtown Montreal and world famous Crescent Street. Each weekend players received 2 complimentary drinks as well as no line and no cover to one of the most exciting bars in Montreal, and those teams that joined us for the Men’s & Women’s weekend on April 17 – 19 attended a private party at Karina’s Lounge in the upstairs. The DJ pumped great tunes all night as teams mingled with CHE staff and each other until the wee hours of the night. We will definitely be heading back to Sir Winston’s in 2017!
Flyby at Wild Bill’s
Once again we booked private party’s at Wild Bill’s saloon for the 200 + teams that attended our Banff tournaments this year. A full cowboy spread with brisket, ribs and fried chicken puts some fuel in everyone’s bellies, so by the time the band hits the stage at 9:00pm everyone is ready to party to the max. There’s always a team or two that finds a way to stand out from the rest of the herd, and this year the boys from Edmonton proved they had not lost that loving feeling for the greatest fighter jet movie of all time.
La Belle Provence Sweeps Florida Cup
The sun was hot, the wind was relentless and 3 teams from Quebec went home with all of the hardware at this year’s event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Teams were also fortunate to attend Game 5 of the first round which went to double OT before the Islanders made the BB&T Center completely silent in defeating the Panthers. Luckily the teams had premium seats for $75, including all you can eat and all the beer and wine you could drink…unreal deal. La Zone was so committed to their game they continued to play on the beach even after claiming the Kobe Division Championship.
The Groom’s in Net
Las Vegas always has, and always will be the ideal destination to take your buddy for his bachelor party, and what better way than by playing in a hockey tournament while you’re there. Find the Groom went the next level, getting these fantastic, custom bachelor party jersey’s made up for the event and refused to let the hockey get in the way of their good times all weekend long.
The Long Island Wasps came to Quebec City with one goal and one goal only; to bring home the trophy. After 3 straight years travelling home with silver medals around their necks, there was no doubt in any of their minds that it was gold or bust for NFL great Boomer Esiason and the rest of his squad. With strict 12:30am curfews for the entire weekend, the team arrived early on Sunday morning with rested eyes and soft hands as they defeated Les Boys from Embrun, ON and captured the elusive trophy.
Music City a Huge Success
Our first ever run at a tournament in Nashville was a huge success. Every team that headed down to Tennessee were amazed at the quality of the divisions, the great post game celebrations at Jed’s Sports Bar, and the seemingly endless number of bars that featured live music all night and every night. We will definitely be back in Nashville next year and can’t wait to see this event grow in size.
New Events in the Works
Even though the tournaments aren’t completely finished, it’s time to start looking at next season and we’ve got some amazing new events in motion. After a couple of year’s hiatus it looks like we’re definitely heading back to Halifax for St. Patrick Day weekend in 2017. Teams will stay downtown and play their games right across the bay at the Forum, just 5 minutes away. Anchorage, Alaska is in the works for next June, with the potential for some King Salmon fishing on Friday afternoon for teams. Boston, MA next May looks like a real possibility as we’re negotiating with a great arena that’s right downtown so teams won’t have to travel all the way to Marlborough. We’ve also partnered up with “Pragues Barrel” for teams looking to head over to this beautiful, mid-evil city in the heart of eastern Europe.
